Best air purifier for allergies and hay fever (2026)

For pollen and asthma, a genuine HEPA grade matters most, followed by quiet running for the bedroom.

What matters for allergies

  • A stated HEPA grade. H13 or H14. “HEPA-type” promises nothing. HEPA explained.
  • The bedroom first. It's where you spend the most time, and pollen settles on bedding.
  • Ioniser off. Ozone irritates the airways, so leave ioniser features switched off if you have asthma.
  • Timing. WA's grass pollen peaks in October and November. Fit a fresh filter in September.

Questions

Will a purifier stop my hay fever?

It cuts the pollen in the room, which helps, especially overnight. It won't help outdoors, so keep your usual treatment and windows shut on windy spring days.

Does it help with dust mites?

Only partly. Mite allergen is heavy and settles into bedding. Washing bedding weekly at 60°C does more. Indoor air guide.
