Xiaomi Air Purifier 6 review
A lot of clean air for the price. The app and the filters are the trade-offs.
Good for
- Living rooms up to 55 m²
- The most clean air per dollar we rate
- Cheap filters
Not for
- People who want simple controls
- Anyone set on third-party filters
Verdict
BreatheSafeAir measured about 453 m³/h, a touch above Xiaomi's own figure. That's more than the Levoit 400S, for about $300. Filters are cheap at about $50 each, and it reports PM2.5, temperature and humidity on a colour screen.
Two catches. The filter carries a chip, so only genuine Xiaomi filters work. And auto mode waits too long to speed up, with no way to adjust it. On smoke days, set the speed yourself.

How it handles Perth's air
- Bushfire smoke: good, if you set the speed by hand. The carbon layer is thin, so expect some smell to linger.
- Pollen: good.
- Dust: excellent.
- Pets: good.
Watch out
Buy the Australian version (AU plug and a two-year local warranty). Grey imports of older Xiaomi models are common online. Advanced settings need the Xiaomi Home app. It has an ioniser; most people leave it off.
Alternatives
- Levoit Core 400S: simpler, with open filter choice.
- Levoit Core 600S: much more airflow and real carbon, for more money.
